Medicare Rebates
The Australian Government pays Medicare rebates for a range of medical services that medical practitioners provide. The Medicare Benefits Schedule determines the rebate amounts that patients receive from the Government, and rebates are paid as a percentage of the Medicare Schedule Fee as follows:
- 100% for GP consultations
- 85% for all other services that are provided by medical practitioners in the community
- 75% for all services provided by medical practitioners for hospital treatment when the patient is admitted to the hospital as a private patient.
MBS Online is the Australian Government's website for the Medicare Benefits Schedule. The website contains details about Medicare Item Numbers, including the percentage of the Medicare Schedule Fees and Medicare Rebate amounts.
